Bruxelles est une ville complexe, capitale de l’Europe au cœur d’un pays fragile, où elle est à la fois un ciment et un enjeu. Les limites de la Région-Capitale, bien plus étroites que celles de la zone métropolitaine, ne sont pas seulement un fait administratif. Elles pèsent fortement sur la problématique bruxelloise : celle d’une ville économiquement prospère, une petite ville mondiale, mais en même temps une ville de pauvres, en fort essor démographique, aux ressources budgétaires insuffisantes.
Invité:
Christian Vandermotten, docteur en géographie et licencié en urbanisme, est professeur émérite à l’Université libre de bruxelles. Il y a présidé l’Institut de gestion de l’environnement et d’aménagement du territoire (IGEAT) et a co-dirigé le Laboratoire de géographie humaine. Il est membre de l’Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique. Il est président de la Société royale belge de géographie, a présidé le Comité national de géographie et EUGEO, l’association des sociétés de géographie européennes. Il a publié de nombreux travaux dans les domaines de la géographie économique, de la géographie urbaine et de la géographie politique, avec un focus particulier sur la Belgique et l’Europe.
Il nous parle cette semaine dans Europolis d’un ouvrage sur Bruxelles, publié aux Editions de l’Université et de la Brussels Academy.
